AOTEA - Nelson
This is my own label made which is made for me by a family owned and operated winery in Nelson. The first vintage, a Sauvignon Blanc was produced in 1992 and has proved to be a very popular brand both here in the U.K. and in Ireland. The famous New Zealand restaurant, The Providores, in London’s West End have stocked this wine since they opened some years ago.
The name is part of the old Maori name for New Zealand ‘Aotea-Roa’ or ‘land of the long, white cloud’.
All the wines in the Aotea range are approachable and eminently drinkable from the moment they arrive in the U.K.
The vineyard in Nelson has been granted the SWNZ quality mark for care of the land, environment, staff and surrounding areas. Sustainable Winemaking New Zealand provides a framework for viticultural and winemaking practices. There is a defined set of rules under this framework and it covers areas such as water and energy use, composting and mulching of vine cuttings and pips and skins that are left over from the winemaking. Companion planting to aid pest control and encourage
beneficial insect life and grasses which help conserve water all aid the overall practice.

Syrah 2005 “winemakers collection”:
The syrah vines are grown on soils that have a combination of rocks and boulders which hold the warmth of the sun and thus offer fuller, richer flavours to the grapes. This wine has a deep mulberry colour with aromas of cracked black pepper and blackberry. On the palate the spicy, plumy and peppery notes are highlighted. A delicious wine and very good example of Kiwi Syrah.
Case of 12 bottles - £180.00
Case of 6 bottles - £97.00
Two Terrace Red 2003:
This wine comes from an area further south, Waipara. Dusky red plums and jammy cabernet flavours make this a sturdy style perfect with red meat and pastas.
Case of 12 bottles - £119.40
Case of 6 bottles - £66.70
