MARTINBOROUGH: in the Wairarapa located in the southern-most corner of the North Island approximately one hour’s drive from the capital city Wellington.
The area is generally sunny and dry with warm summer days, cool nights and low-vigour, free draining soils. The dry north-west winds which prevail during spring and summer can cause shoot damage and upset flowering but the region’s low incidence of vine disease more than compensates for those risks.
The region grows naturally low-cropping vines which yield intensely flavoured grapes. Pinot Noir is the doyen of the vines grown in the area and here it combines both power and fruit elegance.
